An Exhibition on
Palestine Memories
A Homeland Memory”

“A Homeland Memory” is the title of
the exhibition which was opened at the library hall of An-Najah
National University by the University President Prof. Rami
Hamdallah and Ali Tukan the Municipality Library Director.
The goal of this exhibition is to
show the heritage and culture, roots and memories of the
Palestinian People over the past eighty years.
Paintings and images were exhibited;
some were painted by western artists, while the rest of the images
were taken by Palestinians during their day-to-day life as well as
during times of war and deportation.
Pictures depicting cultural and
social spheres of Palestinian life were also shown to the
university audience and community associations’ members who
visited the exhibition.
The
exhibition is one of the activities organized by the Zajel Youth
Exchange Program of the Public Relations Department with the aim
of strengthening ties between Palestinian students and their
heritage, culture, history and memories.
Many students and instructors
expressed their deep gratitude for organizing such an exhibition,
which revealed their history to them, a history rich in
determination and hope.
Old
newspapers from the 1930s published in Palestine, such as Al-Defa`
(Defense) and Falasteen, were also shown during the exhibition.
Such newspapers were issued in both Jafa and Haifa before the
establishment of the state of Israel.
The eyewitnesses from 1948 were
particularly moved and enthused by the exhibition, which provided
them with an opportunity to visualize their cities of birth, and
to recollect with nostalgia their childhood in Jafa or in Haifa.
